Matt first started working behind the bar in San Francisco, studying under celebrated barman Kevin Diedrich at Jasper’s, before further honing his talents at the historic Comstock Saloon.
In 2015, Matt followed his love for spirits to New York City, where he was part of the opening team at the popular Peruvian restaurant Llama Inn, learning from mixologist and philanthropist Lynette Marrero. The following year, Matt joined the acclaimed beverage program at The NoMad Hotel, working his way up from barback to head bartender. Alongside the leadership of Beverage Directors Leo Robitschek and Nathan McCarley-O’Neill, Matt and his team received multiple Spirited Awards from Tales of the Cocktail, in addition to being recognized as the No.3 “Best Bar in the World” by The World's 50 Best Bars and taking home the title of “Best North American Bar” in both 2017 and 2018.
At Ci Siamo, Matt leads a bar team in creating classic and seasonally-driven cocktails that spotlight spirits of the highest quality. With a focus on aperitivo culture, Matt’s beverage program accentuates Chef Hillary Sterling’s menu of bold bar snacks, best enjoyed alongside great food and company.
